Decks and Outdoor Structures
Cedar Decks
Cedar is a popular choice for decking in the Northwest. Cedar is strong and naturally resistant to insects and rot, so no chemical treatment is necessary. Cedar doesn’t readily absorb moisture -and since moisture is what creates twisting and splitting , cedar tends to lie straight and flat. Cedar looks beautiful, smells great, has a long lifespan and requires less maintenance than other types of wood. Other wood decking options include pressure treated and tropical hardwoods such as ipe, and tigerwood.
Composite Decking
Composite/ PVC Decking material offers beautiful decks that are virtually maintenance free. Designed to provide the look of wood while being easier to maintain. Composite material is resistant to fading, peeling and cracking. You will never have to sand, seal, paint or re-stain. Maintenance involves spraying it off with a hose. Composite and pvc deck boards are a great choice as they stand up to the harsh and unpredictable Pacific Northwest weather. Some companies offer up to a 50 year warranty on their product.
Pressure Treated Lumber
If economy and longevity is what you are looking for then pressure treated lumber may be your choice. Manufacturers make pressure-treated wood by placing lumber in a vacuum and treating it with chemicals: Copper being the main ingredient used to treat the lumber. Pressure-treated wood is a safe, long lasting building material used in decks, fences, retaining walls, and other places where wood is exposed to rot, insect attack or other forms of bio-deterioration.
Arbors
Arbors are beautiful in small or narrow gardens to add a structural element, frame an opening or entrance way, provide privacy to the homeowner and also as a vertical growing element. Small and narrow outdoor spaces do not usually have much space for planting. Arbors and trellises offer a structural element to use in vertical planting. Arbors can also be used to break up a narrow space and make it more interesting Whether you a dressing up a plain fence or wanting to beautify a garden or seating area we would love to build your unique arbor.
Pergolas
A pergola typically stands over your patio or deck. They add character, beauty, privacy and shade and are affordable when compared to other structures such as awnings, covered decks and patios. I used to wonder what purpose a pergola serves with its open roof that provides little protection from sun or rain. I have since become a big fan of this outdoor structure. If you have questions or would like help designing your own pergola give us a call.
Covered Deck or Patio
A closed roof turns your deck or patio into an outdoor room. This structure can be made of wood or metal. The roof can be traditional shingles, clear to colored pvc, louvered or stationary metal. The choices are endless. Take outdoor cooking or entertaining to the next level. For a durable fence with great visibility, chain link fencing is a great option. Made of galvanized or vinyl coated metal there are a wide variety of colors and height options.
